One Step At A Time

God has a plan for your life.

Something important to point out is that God has a plan for everyone else, too.

More than seven billion people are living today, yet every one of them has been given a plan by God.

Here’s something even cooler: all of those plans are like snowflakes. No two plans look the same.

So let’s try this again.

God has a plan for your life.

His plan for you is specific and perfectly tailored to you.

Despite knowing this, actually walking in this plan can be very difficult at times. Why is that?

Well, a big contributing factor is that we live in a world that doesn’t live the way we do, which is having God as top priority.

The good news is that you and I follow a God who is not only the one who designed the path for us to take, but is also the God who comes alongside us on this very path and helps us with every step.

In the Message translation, Luke 1:79 says God is “showing us the way, one foot at a time, down the path of peace.”

Let’s break this verse down into three parts.

  1. “…showing us the way….” It is God who shows us where to go and which path to take (also check out Proverbs 3:5–6). The only thing we need to do is listen to Him, and He will give us direction.
  2. “…one foot at a time….” We live in a world where fast is the norm. Drive-thru’s, “blazing fast” Internet speeds, pizza delivery in under 30 minutes, etc. God wants us to take things slow. There may be moments when everything around us is moving quickly, but let’s remember to not be moved by what happens around us, but to move at God’s pace. After all, we live this life having a “walk” with God.
  3. “…down the path of peace.” Being in the will of God is the safest place for you to be. If God calls someone to go overseas on a missions trip, they are actually safer there instead of staying home, because they are walking in His plan! Being in the will of God happens to be the smartest place for you to be, too. Think about it. What better place is there to be than in the plan of the Almighty Creator? The one who created the heavens and the earth also created a unique plan for every one of us. So following His ways is the best decision we could ever make, because He has it all planned out.

I encourage you to seek God and discover where He wants you to go. Not just in the big plan for your life, but also where to go today. Pray that God will show which path to take and that He will show you the way, “…one foot at a time, down the path of peace.”
