Freely-Living

Fearless Living

Everyone is confronted with fear at some point in their life.

Some fears are more apparent than others. For example, if someone is afraid of spiders, they will probably scream when they see one. If you are afraid of public speaking, you are probably aware of it, because you tremble when you have to speak in front of people. If you are afraid of getting into a car accident, you are likely to hesitate before getting into a car.

Other fears, however, are not so obvious.

Sometimes I think we limit fears to things that we can see (spiders, speeches, cars, etc.). But most of the time the fears that impact us the most come from within. We are afraid that we will not measure up to what others expect out of us. We worry about making enough money to meet our needs. We fear only having shallow relationships and no true friends. We worry when we don’t know what our next step in life is.

Any of these hitting home?

Here’s a fun fact for ya: The only fears that we are born with are the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises.

That means that all other fears… are taught.

WHOA.

WHERE are these fears coming from?

The devil wants you to be in fear. I believe that fear is his number one way of trying to halt the plan of God. Fear will immobilize you. It keeps you from moving forward. If you let it, it can even throw you off course completely. You simply cannot operate in the will of God from a place of fear. So the saying, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself?”, it’s true.

So how do you get rid of fear?

1 John 4:18 tells us that there is no fear in love, because perfect love casts out fear. God is love. Apart from Him, perfect love does not exist. This verse goes on to say that the one who fears is not perfected in love.

Here’s the deal… you cannot perfect your own love. But God, the author of love… love Himself… He can.

Sometimes I wish that there was a formula for this kind of thing… like, 7 steps to eliminate fear from your life… something that I can do myself. But the answer is really very simple: abide in the One who loves you, and let Him deal with it.

Ask GOD to perfect your love today. Ask Him to mend the places where your love walk needs some work. Then… LEAVE IT TO HIM… and go live fearlessly.
